Foreigners tell story of business life in Turkey

Providing in-depth knowledge of the Turkish market, a recent book presents the experiences of foreign executives from a variety of companies that have been active in the country for a number of years.

The book, “Modern Turkey,” which is now on store shelves, provides expert analysis of the Turkish market in the words of leading foreign executives from companies such as Siemens, Osram, Bosh, Schott Orim and Unilever.

Noting that Turks know about difficult situations, Dr. Susanne Mueller, one of the authors of the book and an owner of Cross-Culture Publishing, said in the book that people in the country had been forced to develop “a survival strategy” in which creativity and improvisation were required as key capacities during long periods of uncertainty.

“Today, they are masters in crisis management, but somewhat weak in time management,” she said.

“Every culture has its own inner logic and wisdom,” Mueller said.

Reconciling cultural differences and combining the advantages of cultural diversity a new level is the key to effective intercultural and synergetic achievement, Mueller said, adding that such success could not be attained alone.

The book builds a bridge between foreign subsidiaries in Turkey and their foreign headquarters, conveying authentic information about the real, modern Turkey and business life in Turkey, according to the editor.

Mueller coauthored the book with Werner E. Stein.
